First Chapter
An Empire is born
To understand the beast, we must know its origins.
Its year 1998 , almost unexpectedly, was bom what later become the largest Internet search engine and largest, one of the most powerful and innovative companies of the world. Its creators were two young students, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, who were at that time 23 years old and 24 years old. They met at Stanford University while doing a Phd. They did not get onalong with each other at the beginning. Actually they were always arguing, but probably because they had too many things in common: they were both sons of teachers, their passion was computer science and mathematics, and curiously, they both came from Jewish families. However, what kept them together over time was that they had the same concerns about information and technology.
Larry Page was a computer engineer and Sergey Brin graduated with honors in mathematics and science in computer engineering. Yeah, they were geeks, at the matter of fact two brilliant geeks, and I mean this in a good day. Moreover, they would feel fully identified with this term. What happens is that right now not many people see it that way.
They have had such great success, achieved to employ huge amount of people and earned so much money that the essence of what brought them to success has been lost. Their profiles are so unique that if they had not achieved this big success, they most probably will be portrait in a different way today. A sensible guy named Bill Gates, the founder of the powerful Microsoft, once said that one of the most important advices you could give to your children is not to laugh, or be cruel or humiliate any geeks at school, because most likely they could end up working for one of them. Bill Gates was also another great geek. Although it may not look like it, the founders of Google and Microsoft have a lot in common.
